So last night as we celebrated Ben's 8th birthday I realized throughout the day how quickly 8 years have passed me by. All the funny and loving things he says and does have not been written down anywhere! So it gave me the motivation to start this so when he is 28 I know that somewhere I have it all instead of in my head because we all know that isn't too reliable!!! We had such a great day yesterday. I spent the night before his big day wrapping and decorating so when he woke up he would feel the excitement that the day had to offer. I've always made a big deal out of my kids birthdays because well lets be honest I love making a big deal out of my birthday and always have!!! I was awoken to a loud off tune song being sung in my ear by Ben the words went like this "this is the day you had me..." I knew I was in for a fun filled day at that point :) We got up and opened a few presents, went and had pizza with daddy, he got to go pick out a new pair of shoes and a watch, Cold Stone, and on to swimming, lasagna, more presents, marsh mellow roasting on our deck, and finally cake and ice cream!!! But really what makes me write this post is what he said to his dad when his big day was coming to an end. He was hugging Brandon and he pulled away and said "You know what my favorite present was?" and Brandon said "no what was it buddy?" and he said "You dad". What an amazing son we have and how incredibly blessed he makes each and every day! When he made a wish on his candles this year he told me that he thanked God for giving him such great parents. The truth is Ben you are the greatest gift of all and we thank God for you everyday! We love you and Happy 8th birthday buddy! xoxoxo

I am so glad you're finally blogging.
What a fun day you had, Ben is just glowing in his pictures...I bet he had a wonderful day. He is such a sweet young man and it has been a joy getting to know him. Happy birthday Ben!!!

Happy Birthday Ben :) That sounds like the perfect birthday celebration, and fun for you and Brandon to plan it and make it possible for him. You've got great kids - me and mom and kara and Colin were all talking about it on the drive back from Bellingham. It doesn't surprise me that Ben would say something so sweet.
What a group you all are! Sometimes family is just plain strange, but you guys are strange AND kinda cool at the same time. Ha. See, Makenna knows how to play the strange game - I don't know many kids her age who are obsessed with bright green gum. So long live our strange family!
